Dogma (About)

TailLights’ Mira Jones is a dedicated advocate for the companion dog and his or her human. She is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CCPDT), a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (IAABC), a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), and an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator.

Training methods are based on behavioral principles derived from scientific research, utilizing Things That Motivate Dogs - food, praise, play, toys, and of course, attention!  Responsible management of a dog’s environment is emphasized.  Physical or verbal abuse is never used or advocated.

Mira’s approach blends the practical, philosophical and spiritual aspects of sharing a life with dogs. She strives to facilitate the creation of a loving, balanced and rewarding relationship between her clients and their canine companions. Humane training methods and equipment are embraced at TailLights. These methods are grounded in the scientific principles of learning in which the primary strategy is the positive reinforcement of desired behaviors.

Additionally, Mira draws from the study of animal behavior as it occurs in the natural environment. Acknowledging, examining and utilizing the contributions of ethology and behavioral ecology is vital to gaining a deeper understanding of our canine friends.

A life shared with dogs brings extraordinary opportunities and challenges. Every interaction is an opportunity to provide wise leadership, personify compassion and engage in a relationship unlike any other.

As in any relationship, challenges are equally frequent. To sustain a balanced interspecies connection in a human-centric world is no small task. Yet when accomplished, the effort is rewarded many times over.
